We have selected Cool Antarctica as the world's very best website on Antarctica.

The Cool Antarctica website is produced by Paul Ward, a teacher in Chatteris, Cambridgeshire, England. He spent over two years in Antarctica from 1985 to 1987 as a marine biologist with the British Antarctic Survey.

The Cool Antarctica website is organised into the following main sections: Antarctica Pictures, Antarctica Cruise, Facts, History, Ugg Sale, Store, Clothes, Whales, Books, DVDs, Schools, Boots, Forum, and Falklands Islands Dependencies Survey (the original name of the British Antarctic Survey).

The History of Antarctica section starts with the Greeks in 350 BC, who first recognized the Antarctic. It covers the crossing by James Cook of the Antarctic Circle in 1773, and the explorations of the Russian Captain Thaddeus Bellingshausen in 1819 to 1821. It carries the history forward with accounts of the explorations by Shackleton in 1907 to 1909, Roald Amundsen in 1911, and Robert Scott in 1912.
